Works II

Elkhorn Slough

Elkhorn Slough is often regarded as a cosmic center of the universe. Since the early 1920s, scientists have studied this immense ecosystem, contributing to our understanding of the second-largest remaining salt marsh in California, which hosts 100 species of fish and nearly 300 species of birds. Each visit has revealed to me Elkhorn’s innate ability to challenge perspectives and inspire awe.

In this body of work, I explore the transformative power of beauty through painterly landscapes inspired by these coastal wetlands. Drawing inspiration from Elkhorn’s vibrant tapestry of colors, soft light, and abundant flora, each image serves as an “island of beauty” – a utopian refuge that celebrates nature’s splendor, paying reverence to this remarkable place.
